Peru and Venezuela launch university sexual harassment prevention initiatives

Peru’s Superintendence of Higher Education (Sunedu) is offering free training to universities that request it, teaching staff and students how to recognize, report and protect victims of sexual harassment. The program emphasizes clear reporting channels, procedural safeguards and annual specialized training for authorities. A delegation from the Universidad Nacional de Música attended a recent Sunedu workshop, and Sunedu’s superintendent, Dr. Vicente Paul Espinoza Santillán, highlighted the need for immediate institutional responses to protect vulnerable students.

In Venezuela, a forum on August 3, 2026 at the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the Universidad de Los Andes (Facijup‑ULA) addressed sexual harassment in university spaces. Criminologist Diana Hernández led the discussion, urging a safe and dignified learning environment and encouraging students and student leaders to break the silence around harassment. The event was organized by the student center of the School of Political Sciences and the platform Vértice, stressing the importance of community action against abuse.
