Various regional authorities in Latin America have announced significant reductions or restructuring of traffic fines and penalties.

In Peru, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has implemented an exceptional regime via Supreme Decree 017-2026-MTC, offering a 90% discount on certain accumulated traffic and transport fines. This benefit applies to various stages of administrative processes, including those in execution. However, the discount excludes serious offenses such as driving under the influence, driving without a license, speeding, or causing accidents. The Lima Mayor, Renzo Reggiardo, supported the measure as economic relief for transporters but noted it could result in a loss of approximately 40 million soles for the municipality.

The Urban Transport Authority (ATU) in Peru is also working on a proposal to readjust sanctions based on principles of reasonableness and proportionality.

In Santa Marta, Colombia, the District Mayor's Office has established a scheme under Decree 373 of 2026, offering up to 90% discounts on interest for unpaid traffic fines and impoundment fees. The discount rate decreases progressively over several months, starting at 90% and dropping to 70% by November 2026.
