Peru private investment grows 17.6% in Q2 2026
Peru's economy showed significant indicators of growth and resilience during the first half of 2026. Private investment surged by 17.6% year-on-year in the second quarter, marking its strongest performance since 2010. This expansion was fueled by both non-mining and mining sectors. Additionally, private consumption grew by 3.7%, extending an 11-quarter streak of expansion driven by employment and credit access.
Business sentiment remains high, with investment confidence reaching a 15-year peak. The commerce sector also saw a 6.17% increase in the first half of the year, with retail commerce growing by 7.24% compared to the previous year.
However, the country faces significant challenges. The fishing industry reports high risks due to the El Niño phenomenon, which is expected to last until March 2027. Meanwhile, the government is addressing rising insecurity and crime, with officials proposing new measures for migrant detention and increased police presence to combat extortion and organized crime.
