Peru authorities seize counterfeit medicines and baby products

Authorities in Peru have conducted several operations targeting the sale of counterfeit and unregulated products. In Ica, inspectors from the Directorate of Medicines, Supplies, and Drugs (DEMID) inspected two pharmacies, resulting in the temporary closure of Aquafharma. Officials discovered controlled substances of unknown origin with signs of being falsified, along with outdated temperature logs and missing medical prescription records.

In Lima, a separate operation in San Juan de Miraflores led to the seizure of over five tons of allegedly counterfeit baby detergents. Authorities also confiscated cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, and other hygiene products intended for distribution in markets and stores across southern Lima. Two individuals were detained in connection with crimes against public health and industrial property. Health officials warned that these unverified products pose significant risks, including skin irritation and allergies, particularly for infants.
