Peru boosts camu camu exports with value‑added products, eyes US and Japan markets

Peru continues to dominate global camu camu (Myrciaria dubia) production, focusing now on higher‑value, processed products such as powders and flours. In 2025, direct camu camu exports reached a FOB value of about US$1.74 million, with 87.3% of that value coming from dehydrated formats that command longer shelf‑life and facilitate inventory management. More than 70% of shipments are certified organic, meeting premium market demands.

The United States and Japan were the leading destinations, accounting for 26.4% and 24% of export volume respectively. U.S. buyers mainly source the fruit for dietary supplements and e‑commerce channels, while Japanese demand centers on frozen pulp and functional‑food applications. Exporters must comply with strict labeling and traceability rules set by the FDA and Japanese regulators. The sector aims to shift further toward circular‑economy models and increase the share of value‑added products.
