Peru cherimoya exports exceed US$2.8 million

Peru has seen a significant rise in its cherimoya exports, with shipments exceeding US$2.8 million in 2025. This represents a substantial increase from the previous year, when exports were valued at over US$400,000. The country produces more than 27,000 tons of the fruit annually across approximately 3,800 hectares.

The Lima region accounts for more than 50% of national production, specifically within the Huarochirí province. Areas such as San Mateo de Otao and Callahuanca are noted for producing the “Chirimoya Cumbe,” a variety distinguished by its specific flavor, aroma, color, and texture. Other significant producing regions include Cajamarca, Apurímac, Piura, Junín, Cusco, and Áncash.

Major international buyers include Chile and the United States, alongside specialized European markets. While exports of fresh fruit, frozen pulp, and preserves have grown, industry officials note that maintaining the cold chain remains a critical challenge for this highly perishable fruit. To support the sector, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) has established a National Cherimoya Day to foster better coordination between producers, researchers, and the private sector.
