Peru commemorates 202nd anniversary of the Battle of Junín
The Peruvian Army commemorated the 202nd anniversary of the Battle of Junín, a pivotal event in the Peruvian War of Independence that occurred on August 6, 1824, at the Pampas of Junín. The battle, fought exclusively with sabers and spears, resulted in a victory for the Patriot forces led by General Simón Bolívar against the Royalist army led by General José de Canterac.
During the official ceremony held at the Chacamarca Historical Sanctuary, Culture Minister Alberto Beingolea Delgado was met with boos and jeers from the public. The audience's reaction intensified when the minister mentioned President Keiko Fujimori during his address. The event was attended by regional and local authorities, military and police officials, and various citizens.
