Peru honors Admiral Miguel Grau and the Battle of Angamos

Peru commemorates the 205th anniversary of the Navy and the 147th anniversary of the Battle of Angamos, honoring Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario, known as the ‘Knight of the Seas.’

Ceremonies were held across various locations, including Pisco and Chimbote, featuring civic-military tributes, floral offerings, and moments of silence at 9:50 a.m. to mark the exact time of Grau's death in 1879 during the War of the Pacific. These events involve local authorities, military personnel, and educational institutions to reinforce national identity and historical memory.

To coincide with the commemorations, the National General Archive (AGN) launched a digital portal titled ‘Los hijos del Huáscar: historia y genealogía de una gesta.’ The platform provides documented research into the personal lives and trajectories of the 204 crew members—including Peruvian and foreign personnel—who fought alongside Grau aboard the monitor Huáscar.
