Peru Congress summons Transport Minister over 85 critical bridges
The Peruvian Chamber of Deputies has approved a summons for Minister of Transport and Communications, José Angello Tangherlini Casal, to address the critical condition of 85 bridges located on the country's concessioned highways. The decision follows an alert from Deputy Carlos Yalta Sotelo regarding infrastructure risks posed by the approaching rainy season and the El Niño phenomenon.
Data from the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Public Transport Infrastructure (Ositrán) indicates that these structures require urgent intervention. The summons requires the minister to provide details on necessary works, required budgets, responsible parties, and specific timelines for completion. Concerns were also raised regarding the prolonged use of temporary modular bridges, specifically citing the Chancay bridge, which collapsed in February 2025.
