Peru Congresswoman's claim on Central Bank's role is false
Peruvian Congresswoman Svieta Fernández of the Juntos por el Perú party incorrectly stated that the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) is responsible for maintaining labor stability. During an interview with RPP, Fernández suggested the institution has a role in regulating and controlling labor stability as part of its economic functions, though she later corrected her statement after being challenged by the interviewer.
According to the Political Constitution of Peru and the BCRP Organic Law, the primary purpose of the Central Reserve Bank is to preserve monetary stability. Its legal mandates include regulating money and the credit of the financial system, managing international reserves, and issuing banknotes and coins. Economic specialists have confirmed that the institution's legal framework does not assign it the responsibility of maintaining labor stability.
