Peru: Constitutional complaint filed against Senator Fernando Rospigliosi

Peruvian lawmakers Indira Huilca and Mirtha Vásquez, alongside Jaime Quito, have filed a constitutional complaint against Senator Fernando Rospigliosi. The complaint, submitted to the Constitutional Accusations Commission, alleges that Rospigliosi has undermined the independence of the judicial system.

The accusations claim that between August 2025 and August 2026, Rospigliosi filed resources with the National Board of Justice (JNJ) seeking the dismissal of six judges and one prosecutor. The complainants also cite statements made by the senator regarding the need to “sweep” the judicial system. If the complaint proceeds, the proposed sanctions include suspension and a 10-year disqualification from office.

Senator Miguel Torres of Fuerza Popular has expressed support for Rospigliosi, stating that constitutional complaints should not be used as tools to silence political positions or persecute adversaries.
