Peru Culture Minister supports repeal of Artist College law
Peruvian Minister of Culture Alberto Beingolea announced that his ministry will support the repeal of Law 32645, which established the Professional College of Artists of Peru. The minister stated that the law “has its days numbered” following widespread rejection and criticism from the artistic community regarding freedom of expression and professional access.
Beingolea indicated that there is a consensus among legislators to nullify the regulation. He confirmed that once Congress requests a formal opinion from the Ministry of Culture regarding a potential repeal, the sector will provide a favorable response supported by legal arguments. The minister emphasized that the ministry has listened to the demands of the artistic guilds and believes they should feel reassured about the upcoming legislative changes.
