Peru declares GLP supply emergency in five southern regions

The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) has declared an emergency regarding the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (GLP) across five southern regions: Arequipa, Cusco, Puno, Moquegua, and Tacna. The measure, formalized through Ministerial Resolution No. 360-2026-MINEM/DM, aims to mitigate shortages caused by road blockages resulting from heavy rains and natural disasters.

The emergency declaration, which lasts for up to 30 days, authorizes the regulator Osinergmin to implement transitional measures and exceptions to standard hydrocarbon commercialization and safety regulations. These actions are intended to optimize the transport of fuel to bottling plants and service stations, ensuring a continuous supply to households, social support institutions, and the transport sector.

Authorities will also intensify inspections to prevent price speculation and hoarding. The priority is to facilitate the distribution of this essential energy resource to protect the economy of local households and transporters in the affected southern zones.
