Peru educational infrastructure: Lambayeque approves school modernization as Moquegua parents protest
In Lambayeque, the Regional Government has approved the technical file for the reconstruction and modernization of the Perú Birf Polytechnic Institute in Ferreñafe. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of October. The project includes the creation of a contingency center to ensure class continuity, followed by the construction of a permanent facility featuring 22 classrooms, advanced laboratories, sports courts, and high-tech workshops for specialties such as mechanics, electricity, and food industries.
Meanwhile, in Moquegua, parents of students from the Manuel Camilo de la Torre school have announced a hunger strike scheduled for Friday. The protest is directed at the Regional Government due to delays in the construction of the new school building, a project funded through the ‘works for taxes’ modality by the mining company Southern Perú. Parents expressed dissatisfaction with the current use of prefabricated contingency classrooms in San Francisco and reported that construction work has largely stalled.
