Peru elections 2026 ONPE JNE electoral tallies vote recount

Following the regional and municipal elections held on October 4, 2026, Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has completed the processing of all 89,935 electoral tallies. While 96.7% of the votes have been incorporated into the general count, a significant portion remains pending due to observations, challenges, or requests for annulment.

The National Jury of Elections (JNE) and Special Electoral Juries (JEE) are currently reviewing thousands of observed tallies. Of the 6,930 files received, the JEE have addressed 2,402, leaving over 4,400 pending resolution. Additionally, 421 tallies have been referred for vote recounts, with hearings scheduled to begin on October 12, 2026. The deadline for all recount hearings is set for October 28.

Due to the high number of regions where no candidate achieved the required 30% of valid votes, the JNE has officially scheduled the second round of regional elections for December 6, 2026. This date was moved from the original November 29 target to accommodate logistical needs and mitigate potential disruptions from the El Niño phenomenon.
