Peru advances preparations for 2026 regional and municipal elections

Preparations for Peru's 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections are advancing through several administrative and ethical milestones. The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) will hold public draws on August 19 to determine the placement of political parties and regional movements on the ballots. Additionally, ONPE has proposed adjusting the regulations for the electoral broadcast slot during potential second-round elections to provide greater technical flexibility.

On the ethical front, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) announced that the Electoral Ethical Pact will be signed on August 20. This agreement, reached by 13 political organizations, focuses on promoting respectful campaigns, transparency in financing, and combating disinformation.

In regional developments, the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) of Huaraz admitted the regional formula and candidate list for the Frente de la Esperanza party for the Ancash Regional Government. Meanwhile, reports indicate that over 304,000 voters are already enabled for the upcoming 2026 electoral cycle.
