Peru: Explosive attacks linked to extortion in Cayma and Talara

Extortion-related explosive attacks have been reported in the Peruvian regions of Arequipa and Piura.

In the Cayma district of Arequipa, an unidentified motorcyclist threw an explosive device at the Ferrehogar hardware store. While the blast caused significant material damage and broke nearby windows, no injuries were reported. Local officials, including Cayma councilman Iván Velásquez, noted that the business had previously received threatening calls and messages. This marks the second attack in the district within a month.

In Talara, Piura, two individuals on a mototaxi detonated an explosive device outside the home of a local entrepreneur. Preliminary reports suggest the owner, an automobile rental businessman, was being targeted by extortionists demanding money for protection. Police from Depincri-Sullana and the Talara Alta station are currently investigating the incident.
