Latin American agricultural exports show varied trends in 2026
Agricultural export performance across Latin America shows significant shifts in 2026. In Peru, avocado exports reached US$ 1,342.8 million between January and August, a 8.6% increase driven by higher prices and demand from the Netherlands and Spain. Additionally, Peruvian rice has successfully entered the United States market for the first time, with an initial 19.5-ton shipment from Tumbes arriving in New Jersey.
In Ecuador, banana exports grew by 9.6% through September, with the European Union remaining the primary destination. However, rice exports to Colombia have slowed to minimum volumes as the country prioritizes domestic supply following previous trade disruptions.
Panama reported a 17.2% increase in its exportable offer between January and September, reaching B/. 1,157.8 million. Costa Rica’s CORBANA has recommended a nearly 10% increase in minimum banana export prices to offset rising production costs and weather-related challenges. Meanwhile, Belize saw increased banana export earnings from the UK, though revenues from the EU declined.
