Peru faces financial inclusion and literacy challenges
Investment opportunities in Peru range from low-risk options like savings accounts and fixed-term deposits to higher-risk alternatives such as mutual funds, stocks, and real estate. The choice of investment typically depends on an individual's available capital, time horizon, experience, and risk tolerance.
Despite these available options, Peru faces significant challenges regarding financial inclusion and literacy. Only 1.3% of the Peruvian population has an account in the capital market, compared to 10% in Chile. Furthermore, a survey by the SBS and CAF indicated that in 2022, only 13% of adults possessed an adequate level of financial education. This lack of understanding can make it difficult for citizens to evaluate interest rates, compare credits, or assess investment risks effectively.
