Peru football team records first win under coach Mano Menezes ahead of Spain friendly

Peru defeated Haiti 2-1 in a friendly match at Miami's NU Stadium on 6 June 2026, marking the national side's first victory under new Brazilian coach Mano Menezes. Haiti took the lead early through Wilson Isidor, but Peru equalised in the 81st minute via Renzo Garcés and secured the win three minutes later with a goal from Jairo Concha. The match drew about 20,000 spectators.

Menezes hailed the result as the start of a rebuilding process and outlined tactical tweaks before Peru's next test against Spain. He intends to simplify André Carrillo’s role, pairing him with Erick Noriega to improve ball distribution, while Jairo Vélez will be used as a central link in the midfield. These adjustments aim to develop a possession‑based identity capable of challenging stronger opponents such as Spain.
