Peru Health Minister acknowledges Santa Rosa Hospital collapse in Piura

Peruvian Health Minister Luis Dyer has acknowledged that the Santa Rosa Hospital in Piura is currently collapsed due to overwhelming patient demand. During an inspection of the facility, Dyer addressed criticisms regarding broken equipment, a lack of medical supplies, and insufficient staffing reported by patients' families.

Dyer defended the regional healthcare system, stating that while the infrastructure is under strain, it remains functional compared to other regions like Tumbes. He announced plans to establish a new emergency hospital in Piura, intended to be funded through a combination of private sector support, foreign embassy contributions, and donations.

In response to public health risks associated with seasonal rains, the Minister confirmed that Piura has received approximately 140,000 doses of the dengue vaccine. He issued an urgent call for residents aged 10 to 20 to receive the vaccination to prevent outbreaks.
