Peru Health Ministry ramps up TB and dengue detection and prevention

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) has reinforced its national active‑case‑finding strategy for tuberculosis, deploying molecular‑biology equipment and AI‑enabled portable X‑ray units to speed diagnosis. The campaign focuses on high‑risk zones such as prisons and Amazonian regions—including Loreto, Ucayali and Madre de Dios—as well as districts in Lima Metropolitana like Comas, San Juan de Lurigancho and La Victoria. Testing is offered free at health centers.

In the province of Trujillo, officials recorded 1,846 dengue cases in 2024 and have intensified prevention measures ahead of the upcoming El Niño‑related heat. Health and education authorities are coordinating larval‑control actions and school‑based awareness campaigns, targeting districts such as El Porvenir, La Esperanza and others to limit mosquito breeding. No dengue‑related deaths have been reported so far.
