Peru holiday boost fuels surge in Ayacucho‑Lima bus ticket demand

Peru’s long weekend from 27 to 29 June, marking the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, prompted a sharp increase in inter‑provincial travel. Bus operators on the Ayacucho–Lima corridor reported higher demand for return trips, especially for departures that allow passengers to arrive early in the morning.

Fares for the Lima‑Ayacucho leg now range from 60 to 130 soles, while the Ayacucho‑Lima return costs between 70 and 150 soles, depending on the service and departure time. Early‑night departures that reach Ayacucho around 6:30 a.m. command higher prices, whereas later departures, arriving between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., are cheaper. Companies attribute the pricing pattern to the condition of the Los Libertadores highway, whose deterioration has lengthened travel times and made early arrival more valuable to commuters.

Ticket sales remained robust at the Municipal Airport Libertador de América, with many travelers securing seats for night journeys. Despite the surge, operators said seats were still available for the scheduled trips. The holiday calendar also lists upcoming national observances through December, underscoring the broader context of seasonal travel within Peru.
