Peru hospital faces harassment probe and bribery conviction

The Hospital Regional Eleazar Guzmán Barrón has launched an administrative investigation following a harassment complaint filed by a medical intern against a professional at the institution. The hospital's executive direction expressed support for the complainant, promising institutional accompaniment and ensuring confidentiality and due process. The case has also been reported to the CONAREME commission for appropriate action.

In a separate legal development, the Chanchamayo Criminal Court of Appeals confirmed the conviction of Rubén Héctor Carhuallanqui Romero, a physician at the Hospital Regional Docente de Medicina Tropical Julio César Demarini Caro. Carhuallanqui was found guilty of improper passive bribery for requesting 1,000 soles from the family of a patient to perform surgery. Evidence included testimonies, a recovered envelope containing the money, and communications between the doctor and his assistant regarding the payment.
