Peru hosts major literary festivals in Lima and Arequipa
Peru hosts two significant literary events in September 2026. In Lima, the VIII Encuentro de Escritoras Peruanas will take place from September 1 to 4 at the ICPNA Library in Miraflores. Organized by the Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano, the event pays tribute to philosopher Pepi Patrón and explores contemporary themes such as the experiences of Peruvian writers in the United States, the relationship between writing and nature, and the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism.
Simultaneously, the Arequipa Book Festival celebrates its 19th anniversary from September 1 to 12. The festival will feature over 11,000 titles and a diverse cultural agenda centered on San Agustín Street. A major highlight of this edition is the centenary commemoration of poet Blanca Varela, featuring tributes from various researchers and poets. The program also includes presentations by notable authors and historians, including Luis Nieto Degregori and Luis Fernando Cueto Chavarría, covering topics ranging from regional history to contemporary literature.
