Peru hydrocarbon sector reports $593 million in royalties
Peru's hydrocarbon sector reported mixed results for the first half of 2026. Between January and June, the country collected $593 million in royalties from gas, natural gas liquids, and oil. Of this total, natural gas production contributed $299.86 million, natural gas liquids accounted for $172.47 million, and oil generated $121.45 million.
In July 2026, oil production reached 36,930 barrels per day (MBPD). While this represents a slight increase from the previous month, it marks a 23% decrease compared to July 2025. The highest producing areas were Lote 95 in Loreto, followed by Lote X and Lote Z-69 in Piura.
Natural gas production saw a slight increase in July, rising to 1,554 million cubic feet per day (MMPCD) from 1,551 MMPCD in June, a 9.6% increase compared to the same month last year. The Sociedad Peruana de Hidrocarburos (SPH) noted that the decline in annual oil production highlights a need for improved regulatory frameworks and increased private investment to boost reserves and energy security.
