Peru inflation rises in Lima and Arequipa

Inflation in Peru has shown significant annual increases in major cities according to data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI). In Lima Metropolitana, the annual inflation rate reached 4.55% as of September 2026, a substantial rise compared to the 1.36% recorded during the same period the previous year. This upward trend is driven largely by rising costs in transportation and fuels, including a 5.8% increase in gasohol and a 3.9% increase in diesel.

Arequipa also reported high cumulative inflation, reaching 4.39% over the last 12 months ending in September 2026. While Arequipa's monthly increase in September was a modest 0.19%, its annual rate remains among the highest in the country, trailing only cities like Puerto Maldonado and Moquegua. Nationally, the Consumer Price Index rose by 0.14% in September, with notable price hikes in sectors such as alcoholic beverages, transport, restaurants, hotels, and utilities.
