Dominican Republic removes 56,000 unauthorized migration alerts

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in the Dominican Republic have removed 56,140 migration controls from their database. These records, accumulated between 1990 and 2026, included thousands of exit impediments issued without judicial backing.

The removal follows a 2021 directive from Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito and a 2022 Constitutional Court ruling which established that authorities cannot restrict a citizen’s freedom of movement without a legal judicial order. The authorities admitted that many files remained in the system long after their original purpose had been fulfilled, thereby affecting the free movement of citizens.
