Peru international reserves approach US$100 billion milestone

Peru’s central bank, the BCRP, reported that net international reserves reached US$99.094 billion as of August 18, 2026. This figure brings the nation close to the symbolic US$100 billion threshold, marking a potential reversal of the downward trend in reserves that began in 2021.

In the foreign exchange market, the US dollar traded at 3.340 soles for purchases and 3.360 soles for sales in Peru's parallel market on August 25, 2026. This rate remained lower than commercial bank quotations. The National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) established an official reference rate of 3.342 soles for purchases and 3.356 soles for sales.

Major commercial banks reported higher rates, with Banco de Crédito del Perú setting a buying rate of 3.525 soles and a selling rate of 3.540 soles. Other institutions, including Scotiabank, Interbank, and BBVA Peru, also posted varying rates, reflecting market dynamics driven by the supply and demand of US dollars.
