Peru jungle faces tenth friaje with heavy rain and wind

The Peruvian jungle is experiencing its tenth 'friaje' of the year, a meteorological event characterized by significant temperature drops, heavy rainfall, cloud cover, and strong winds. The National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (Senamhi) issued an orange alert, noting that wind gusts could reach speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Forecasted temperatures vary by region, with maximums expected near 27°C in the northern jungle, 28°C in the central jungle, and 26°C in the southern jungle. The affected regions include Ayacucho, Cusco, Huánuco, Junín, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco, Puno, San Martín, and Ucayali.

The National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) has advised the population to protect themselves from sudden temperature changes, particularly by covering the head, face, and mouth to prevent cold air from entering the lungs. Special precautions are recommended for children and the elderly, and citizens are urged to seek medical attention if respiratory infection symptoms appear.
