Peru labor and fishing groups announce protests over economic crises
Various labor and industry groups in Peru have announced or conducted protests regarding economic and employment grievances.
The National Association of Fishing Shipowners of Law 26920 (ANAP 26920) has scheduled a national march for October 21 in Piura and other regions. The group is protesting the prolonged suspension of anchoveta fishing, which has halted activities since April. The association is demanding government intervention, including access to the CRECER Fund, suspension of tax collections, and continued health coverage for workers.
In Tacna, construction workers protested at the Regional Government of Tacna (GRT) headquarters. Approximately 50 workers claim they are owed two fortnights of pay for work on the Avenida Productores project. While the contractor cited liquidity issues due to payment delays from the GRT, the regional government has denied owing any funds to the consortium.
Additionally, workers with disabilities in Ica held a demonstration at the Provincial Municipality of Ica. They are demanding the enforcement of a municipal ordinance intended to protect their labor rights and facilitate work opportunities, claiming they have faced two years of inaction from local authorities.
