Peru Labor Minister announces investigation into Llamkasun Perú
Peru's Minister of Labor, Juan Sheput, has announced an investigation into the hiring of workers and providers for the Llamkasun Perú program. The move follows reports suggesting that certain contractors and employees were also contributors to the political campaign of Jessica Tumi, the program's director.
Sheput stated that the Office of Internal Control must intervene to determine if any irregularities occurred. While he noted that political affiliation or contributions do not inherently constitute a crime, he emphasized that an investigation is necessary to ensure no contracts were granted in exchange for political support.
Sheput defended Tumi's professional work and noted that the individuals mentioned in the reports had existing ties to the program dating back to 2024, prior to the 2026 elections. He also clarified that Tumi is no longer affiliated with the Alianza para el Progreso party.
