Peru launches two major film festivals in June 2026
The inaugural Festival Cine Dentro del Cine (FECIDECI) will run from 11 to 21 June 2026, presenting 38 feature films and shorts that explore cinema’s own history and influence. The programme travels through Trujillo (11‑14 June), Lima (15‑17 June) and Arequipa (18‑21 June). Organisers – Claudio Cordero, Javier Málaga and Mauricio Villanueva – received support from the Filmoteca PUCP and the Embassy of Finland, and most screenings are free to the public.
Meanwhile, the 17th edition of the AL ESTE International Film Festival of San Marcos will take place in Lima from 18 to 28 June 2026. More than 70 films from Europe, Asia and Latin America will be shown, under the theme “Monsters, the impossible beasts”, with five competition sections covering Central‑Eastern European cinema, debut works, contemporary documentary, emerging Peruvian shorts and experimental Ibero‑American film. Highlights include 35 mm screenings, a tribute to Shōhei Imamura’s centenary, a live‑accompanied concert of Nosferatu, and an International Meeting on Public Policies for Film Production and Distribution hosted together with the National University of San Marcos.
