Peru leads global table grape market ahead of Chile and US

Peru has emerged as the world leader in the table grape market, surpassing historical competitors such as Chile, the United States, and Italy. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), this leadership is driven by the introduction of new grape varieties, logistical optimization, and the opening of new commercial borders.

In the previous cycle, Peru exported 729,000 tons of grapes to destinations including the United States, the Netherlands, Mexico, the United Kingdom, China, Canada, and Spain. The 2026-2027 export campaign has already commenced with an initial shipment of 15,580 tons from the Ica region to the United States, verified by the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa).

Geographically, production is concentrated in three main regions: Ica accounts for 50% of total exports, Piura contributes 35%, and Lambayeque provides 5%. The Ica valley currently cultivates 50 varieties, with high international demand for varieties such as Sweet Globe, Autumn Crisp, Ivory, Timpson, Sweet Celebration, and Candy Dreams.
