Cuenca exports decline for 14 consecutive months
Exports from the province of Cuenca, Spain, have fallen for 14 consecutive months, according to data from the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Enterprise. Between January and August 2026, exports totaled 432.7 million euros, a 21.4% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
CEOE CEPYME Cuenca attributes this decline to international conflicts and a reduction in pork purchases from China, which have closed traditional market niches. The agri-food sector, which accounts for 75.3% of the province's total exports, saw a significant drop, with food and beverage sales falling by 69.2 million euros during the first six months of the year.
While the primary sector has struggled, capital goods exports grew by 27% to 62.1 million euros during the first eight months of the year, though this was insufficient to offset the overall decline. The provincial trade balance remains positive with a surplus of 215.3 million euros, despite a reduction in the surplus compared to the previous year.
