Peru Ministry of Defense to install security module at Ancón I prison

The Peruvian Ministry of Defense is installing a second access control module at the exterior of the Ancón I penitentiary in Lima. This initiative is part of a government response to reinforce security in high-security prisons currently under a 60-day state of emergency.

The new module will be equipped with metal detectors, millimeter-wave body scanners to detect hidden objects, and X-ray machines for inspecting packages. These security measures will apply to all individuals entering the facility, including visitors, National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) staff, officials, and inmates being transferred from other prisons.

The Peruvian Navy will be responsible for the 24/7 operation and custody of the system, supporting the National Police of Peru. This follows a similar implementation at the El Milagro prison in Trujillo, where the Peruvian Army manages the security module.
