Peru Ministry of Education strengthens university preparedness for El Niño
The Peruvian Ministry of Education (Minedu), through the General Directorate of Higher University Education (Digesu), has implemented technical assistance for 44 public universities to prepare for the potential effects of the El Niño phenomenon for the 2026-2027 period.
More than 400 university authorities and specialists participated in the sessions to strengthen capacities for reducing vulnerabilities and ensuring the continuity of educational services. The initiative aims to prepare institutions for intense rainfall and other associated hazards. This action is being coordinated with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) and the Office of National Defense and Disaster Risk Management (Odenaged) following a state of emergency declaration in various districts due to imminent precipitation risks.
