Peru Ministry of Transport prioritizes new highway and El Niño response

Peru's Minister of Transport and Communications, José Tangherlini, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to constructing the Nueva Carretera Central. The project involves an investment of over 24 billion soles to connect Lima and Junín via a 185-kilometer, four-lane highway featuring tunnels, viaducts, and bridges. The Ministry is currently working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to secure necessary funding for the project.

In response to the El Niño phenomenon, the Ministry is also deploying heavy machinery and modular bridges to strategic locations across the northern and southern regions of the country. This deployment aims to mitigate road blockages and ensure transitability during potential climate-related emergencies. Additionally, the construction of a 911 emergency center in Lima and Callao is expected to be completed by December, aiming to unify emergency services for approximately 10 million people.
