Peru modifies high-seas jack mackerel quota assignment criteria
Peru's Ministry of Production (Produce) has modified the criteria for assigning high-seas jack mackerel (jurel) quotas. This decision follows reports that Peru exceeded its national quota of 34,169 tons, a record level. This achievement included 5,000 additional tons acquired by the Peruvian company TASA from Chile's high-seas quota.
The new ministerial resolution modifies previous guidelines regarding how remaining quota balances are adjudicated. While the specific technical annex detailing the exact application of these new criteria is pending publication, the ministry has tasked several directorates with ensuring compliance and disseminating the new regulations.
