Peru national football team announces North American tour squad

The Peru national football team, led by Brazilian coach Mano Menezes, has announced a 26-man squad for an upcoming international friendly tour in North America. The tour includes matches against the United States in Orlando on September 26, Mexico in New Jersey on September 29, Canada in Montreal on October 3, and Colombia in Miami on October 6.

Notable inclusions in the squad include the return of midfielder Wilder Cartagena, who has not played for the national team in two years. The roster features a mix of domestic league players and international talent, such as André Carrillo and Yoshimar Yotún. However, veteran midfielder Renato Tapia was excluded from the call-up, a decision Menezes attributed to the team’s ongoing generational renewal process.

Jean Ferrari, the director of football for the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), emphasized that the tour is part of a construction phase aimed at building a competitive group for future World Cup qualifiers, prioritizing team cohesion and experience over immediate results.
