Peru political parties seek electoral investigations and recounts

Political organizations in Peru are navigating legal challenges regarding electoral processes in the Santa and Piura regions. In Santa, the political party Somos Perú has requested that the Jurado Electoral Especial (JEE) expand its investigation into a request to nullify voting table N.° 003035 in Nepeña. The party seeks clarification on the conduct of table coordinators and potential irregularities regarding vote handling and electoral records at the Marcos Evaristo Villacre educational institution.

In Piura, the outcome of the 2026 regional elections remains uncertain due to ongoing disputes. Candidates Guillermo La Torre (Podemos) and Santiago Paz (Somos Perú) may not know who will face Reynaldo Hilbck (Alianza para el Progreso) in a second round until November. This delay stems from the Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE) reviewing decisions related to violence in San Juan de Bigote, which resulted in the destruction of ballots and records. The JNE has revoked a previous decision to annul the election, directing the JEE Morropón to review materials currently held by the Prosecutor's Office to determine if sufficient data exists to validate the results.
