Peru's ONPE prepares for 2026 regional and municipal elections
Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) is finalizing preparations for the Regional and Municipal Elections (ERM) scheduled for October 4, 2026. The definitive voter registry has been established with more than 26,314,000 citizens eligible to vote. The upcoming elections will determine 13,148 positions, including regional governors, vice-governors, councilors, and various levels of mayors and regents.
To facilitate the process, ONPE has deployed over 10,000 polling locations across more than a thousand districts and 2,000 populated centers. The agency has also released an official platform allowing citizens to consult their assigned polling stations, table numbers, and order numbers. Additionally, the platform enables voters to verify if they have been selected as polling station members and to download their official credentials.
Regarding polling station members, 809,415 individuals were selected through public draws to serve in various capacities. The agency has outlined specific procedures for members to request excuses from their duties, which must be submitted within five days of the publication of the definitive lists. Furthermore, ONPE has updated regulations concerning the counting of votes and the destruction of ballots to ensure procedural integrity during the 2026 electoral cycle.
