Keiko Fujimori visits El Salvador to meet Bukele and tour CECOT prison

Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori arrived in El Salvador on Wednesday, October 28, for an official four-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging security strategies. A central component of her agenda is a meeting with President Nayib Bukele to discuss combating transnational organized crime and citizen security.

Fujimori is scheduled to tour the Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), El Salvador’s high-security mega-prison, to observe the country’s methods for managing gang-related incarceration. The delegation will also meet with Justice and Public Security Minister Gustavo Villatoro to discuss the ‘Cero ocio’ social reintegration program and police training protocols.

Beyond security, the visit includes exploring cooperation in health, education, and tourism. The Peruvian delegation, which includes the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Justice and Human Rights, and Health, plans to visit the Hospital Nacional Rosales and an emblematic public school. The trip also involves reviewing technological health platforms like DoctorSV.
