Peru prison authorities intercept cash, phones, and cigarettes
The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) intercepted various forms of contraband during independent operations at three different prisons in Peru: Arequipa, Lurigancho, and Chiclayo.
In Arequipa, officials discovered cash totaling S/800 hidden in a visitor's footwear and purse. In the Lurigancho facility, a woman attempted to smuggle a mobile phone inside a plush toy pencil case. Meanwhile, in Chiclayo, authorities found 408 cigarettes concealed within food packages, specifically inside 34 pieces of traditional turrón bread.
The incidents have been reported to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
