Peru promotes Arequipa as a global hub for green hydrogen
Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines, Guillermo Shinno, has launched an energy agenda focused on strengthening development in Arequipa and the southern region of the country. During the Open RoadShow 2026 in Arequipa, Shinno highlighted the region's potential as a global provider of clean and low-carbon energy.
According to projections from the Regional Government of Arequipa, over 30,000 hectares are designated for the development of new energy industries. The government's strategy emphasizes green hydrogen and its derivatives to drive the energy transition, attract investment, and create formal employment.
To support this, the Ministry is working to establish the necessary institutional and regulatory frameworks. This includes collaboration with the Ministry of Production to create a Productive Innovation and Technology Transfer Center (CITE) for Renewable Energies and Hydrogen, aimed at strengthening national industry participation in the value chain.
