Peru pushes regional tourism with Junín cultural passport and Ayacucho holiday surge

The Junín regional Directorate of Decentralized Culture (DDC) launched a free “cultural passport” on 21 July in Huancayo, aiming to promote internal tourism across the nine provinces of Junín. The passport, which records stamps at highlighted cultural sites such as the Adolfo Vienrich library, Tarmatambo, Muruhuay, Huagapo and Cachipozo, offers incentives to visitors who collect all stamps. A second launch ceremony is scheduled for 5 August in Tarma, with local officials including Erik Ágreda Rodulfo of the Tarma municipal culture office overseeing distribution.

During Peru’s Fiestas Patrias celebrations, the Ayacucho region assessed its capacity for a tourism boom. Authorities reported higher hotel occupancy, increased transport demand and a surge in cultural and gastronomic activities, viewing the festivities as a catalyst for local economic growth. They also noted ongoing challenges such as improving connectivity, strengthening services and establishing new tourist circuits for future high‑season demand.
