CNE candidates propose electoral reforms in Colombia

Ahead of the election of nine magistrates for the National Electoral Council (CNE) by the Congress of the Republic on August 25, candidates are proposing various reforms to electoral legislation in Colombia.

Representatives from the Conservative Party have emphasized the need for CNE autonomy, specifically regarding its independence from budget allocations managed by the National Registry. Proposed changes also include establishing clearer electoral origins for political parties and implementing state financing to prevent the influence of criminal organizations and ensure compliance with financing limits.
