Peru reports over 11,000 cases of school violence in 2026

Official data from Peru’s Ministry of Education via the SíseVe platform reveals a significant rise in school violence. Between January 1 and August 31, 2026, 11,791 cases were reported nationwide, averaging one report every 30 minutes.

The reported incidents include 5,187 cases of physical violence, 4,545 cases of psychological violence—such as bullying, cyberbullying, and discrimination—and 2,059 cases of sexual violence. These incidents involve both peer-to-peer aggression and actions attributed to school staff.

In the Arequipa region, authorities have noted a concerning trend. The UGEL Sur jurisdiction reported 312 cases, while the regional education management system recorded 775 cases through September. Arequipa currently ranks third nationally for school sexual violence, following Lima Metropolitana and Piura.
