Institutional measures launched to combat gender-based violence in Mexico, Peru, and Dominican Republic

Various institutions in Mexico, Peru, and the Dominican Republic are implementing new measures and reporting data regarding violence against women and gender-based issues.

In Mexico, the National Electoral Institute (INE) has established a working group to prevent and address political violence against women for the 2026-2031 period. This technical body aims to coordinate institutional strategies without assuming new judicial or punitive powers. Additionally, reports from the National Public Security System show 1,277 emergency calls related to violence against women in San Luis Potosí between January and August 2026, while Córdoba saw a 69.4% increase in female victims in August compared to July.

In Peru, the Superior Court of Justice of Loreto is implementing an inter-institutional protocol to combat femicide and high-risk domestic violence in San Juan Bautista. Meanwhile, in the Huancayo region, the Public Ministry reported 1,718 complaints of aggression against women and family members, alongside 348 cases of sexual freedom violations, noting an increase in femicides compared to previous years.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Education Council approved a commission to update policies and protocols for preventing and addressing gender, domestic, and sexual violence within the educational community.
