Peru reviews Machu Picchu visitor limits and issues travel tips for holiday tourists

Peru's Ministry of Culture said it is re‑examining the maximum number of visitors allowed at Machu Picchu. Current caps are 4,600 in the regular season and 5,600 in the high season. Officials are studying whether the limit can be raised without harming the site and are considering a move to sell the 1,000 tickets that are still sold in person through a digital platform, with collection points in Machu Picchu Pueblo.

At the same time, the consumer‑protection agency Indecopi released travel advisories for the upcoming Inti Raymi and Fiesta de San Juan festivals. The guidance urges tourists to use formal service providers, check company sanctions on the “Mira a quién le compras” portal, keep transport tickets and payment receipts, demand clear pricing from hotels and restaurants, and use the Book of Complaints or Indecopi's virtual channels for any disputes.
